When is the wire open?

The waiver wire opens following the 25th date of the season (usually in late April but later if the league schedule begins later). It remains open through August 31st. Once the waiver wire opens for the season, owners may vie for the rights to acquire available players or waive eligible players from their rosters.

Who's on the wire?

Players on the waiver wire include only those not signed from the most recent draft. Each database record has a number from 0-19 assigned to it, and the computer randomly selects a different set of players based on these numbers each time a game event transpires. This ensures that new possibilities are continually on the wire.

Note: If the draft for a particular league isn't deep or if the league is just starting with players in high demand, the waiver wire may be very thin. This is an expected occurrence in our game. There may be occasions where the only reliable way to get players is from your Auxiliary Roster.

Since the quality of a player's career varies from year to year, you pay the Player Value (PV) associated with the season shown on the waiver wire. If two or more owners vie for the same player, the team with the worst winning percentage gets priority. If winning percentages are identical then the team with the lower winning percentage in recent history gets priority. Once a player has been picked up from the waiver wire, he is no longer available to other owners unless he is released again onto waivers. Waiver acquisitions are automatically given a Type 4 contract for the remainder of the season.

How do I acquire players?

From the main menu, click MANAGER on the toolbar, then select the WAIVER WIRE tab. The PLAYERS ON WAIVERS button will be active if the wire is open. Click it to populate the list of available players, then drag players onto your list.

If you are a new owner in a league that permits new owners special access rights to players normally off-limits to established owners (see the DEFINITIONS tab on the main screen of the software to determine whether this is the case), then the SPECIAL ACCESS button will also be active for a short period of time after you acquire your team.

How do I release players?

From the main menu, click MANAGER on the toolbar, then select the CONTRACTS tab. Select the player you want to release and drop him by using the WAIVE button. For a player to be released, he must have the right contract type and the waiver wire must be open. Note: Players can also be waived also during the transactions season.

Can I waive a player taken off waivers?

Yes. Players taken off waivers can themselves be waived, but they must remain on your club for a 25 dates before becoming eligible.

<note warning>Players acquired less than 25 days before August 31st cannot be waived since the waiver wire always closes for the season on August 31st.</note>

What if several owners want the same player?

This happens frequently. The owner with the worst seasonal record gets the player. If the seasonal record is tied, then recent history is used to break the tie. If still tied, then it's a random computer decision.
